There’s nothing more sexy than a bargain
AMIRITE?!
Sometimes you’re dead set on a dreamy hotel, but not fussed about exactly when you go. This is when finding the cheapest date comes into play, and is how I’ve been able to stay in some INCREDIBLE hotels.
And for those of you with bougie tendencies (yes, you!), my tip is to shake up your criteria – it doesn’t have to be five star to be a sensational stay. I’ve been to some seriously impressive four star hotels over the past few years and I really think they give five stars a run for their money.
How I find the cheapest night at any hotel This is the exact process that I go through each and every time I simply want to find the cheapest night at a hotel. | Stop obsessing over five star luxury hotels I’ve literally just posted about why I think solely looking at 5 star stays isn’t always the best tactic when booking a treat stay. |
My deal of the week
Thinking of treating someone to hotel AND a meal?! YOU SHOW OFF. The good news is that you can do both and not spend loads of money.
What’s the deal?
Book a Sunday overnight stay at a Malmaison hotel from just £50 when you spend £50 dining in their Mal Bar & Grill.
What’s the damage?
£100 for a room AND £50 worth of food and drink. I think this deal might be my love language.
Why is it a good deal?
I’m hoping it’s pretty clear why this is such a banging offer but allow me to show my workings.
Brighton Malmaison on the Sunday after Valentine’s Day (18th Feb) costs £89 for the night. However, if you were to book their ‘Sunday Kind of Love’ deal, you’d only pay £11 more to score that £50 food and drink credit. That’s a £39 saving!
James and I may or may not have used this deal on the Sunday night that the finale of Line of Duty was on so we could watch it in bed… BEST DECISION EVER.
What else should I know?
Different Malmaison’s have slightly different price points.
Notably, Cheltenham (£40) and Dundee (£45) are currently even cheaper than what the deal is supposed to start at (I’m not complaining lads) whilst Brighton, Aberdeen, York, Liverpool, Leeds, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Manchester all start from £50. Edinburgh City, however, starts at £60 and London comes in at a whopping £115.
I am delighted to see loads of availability for the 18th Feb after Valentine’s Day - I thought they may have increased the price for that one!
Plus, there are options to pay more for a better room if you want to push the boat out. You can score the Junior Suite complete with freestanding bath (and the £50 credit) for just £125 in Cheltenham!
How long will this deal last?
This deal has been running for years but if there’s a specific date you’re after, it’s worth booking ahead as they will only have so many rooms available to book under this deal.
To book, you will need to do so directly with Malmaison.
Look mum, I’m on the telly!
Starting to think I should have called this segment something else since no, you didn’t see my face on the box this week, but I was instead on a podcast!
I was a guest on the Which? Get Answers podcast, where I spoke about all things cheap travel, interrailing and the best value destinations for 2024. Thanks to Grace, Harry and Lauren for having me and you can listen here on Apple Podcasts and on Spotify.
What’s got the team excited this week? 🥳
From bargains to travel news, here’s what we’ve been getting distracted with this week.
I told everyone to not come in this week because of the tube strike that then got cancelled - TYPICAL! So here’s a lovely photo from when we hit 100k on TikTok!
Chelsea: Did you see the news that a German family got £280 compensation after they couldn’t get a sun lounger at their resort? Could this finally be the turning tide for having someone actually implement the ‘no towel reserving’ policies?! HURRAH FOR RULE ABIDERS EVERYWHERE 😂 (God I’m such a square).
Katie: Seeing @handluggageonly’s posts from an amazingly quiet Petra makes me want to jet off again this month to beat the crowds - January is one of my favourite months to travel!
Merowe: The Sinulog Festival in the Philippines is happening next week, and I'm excited to go for the first time! This historic festival takes place every third Sunday of January in Cebu City and features a grand parade through the streets, along with dancers and fireworks.
James: I was very pleased to see to see Post Office Scandal hero Alan Bates and his wife given a trip to exclusive Necker Island by Richard Branson, after all his campaigning to get justice for those wrongfully convicted! And flying upper class!
Anna: I'm avidly watching @marcsebastianf on TikTok since he bagged a spot on a NINE MONTH cruise! He’s joining for 18 days and promising to ‘cause chaos, reek havoc, and film everything’!
And that’s a wrap!
That’s all for this week - thanks if you made it this far and why not let me know you did so by answering the poll below ⬇️
